Democratically elected leaders in Africa... end up being dictators...?

From my own observations over the years, it seems that emerging nations, which have been released from colonial control, are particularly susceptible to conversion to dictatorships. Some reasons for this deplorable state of affairs can include (1) the lack an electorate fully aware and educated about the democratic process, (2) the lack of experienced leaders and extant traditions of democracy, (3) the prevalence of corruption among government officials, who can't wait to get their hands on foreign aid funds, among other national ets, and (4) the tendency of the armed forces of emerging nations to meddle in government policies.
