Is stable world peace possible?

I feel that nuclear weapons are currently the best option for attaining world peace. Mutually ured Destruction (MAD) has maintained peace for the last 64 years. However, MAD is, and this can be considered the ultimate understatement, a very fragile form of peace. If one insane ruler acquires the access to nuclear weapons, all complex life on earth (with the exception of possibly some arthropods and fungi), will be completely obliterated. This leads me to believe that there are only 5 possible ways for a more stable peace to be acquired, that currently do not seem feasible: scalar force fields, which are to my knowledge impossible; a laser based defense grid (the infamous star wars project); Some mechanism to render the radioactive material inside of nuclear weapons inert; human altruism outweighs humanity's desire for power: and last, and probably the most unlikely scenario, superhumans like superman and the hulk. does anyone know if any of these are likely to happen soon, or if there are any other means to obtaining peace? Please, no one respond with some bullshit philosophical response like, "you reap what you sow man!" I am searching for legitimate answers to a legitimate question. (also, and this is kind of a sub question: is anyone else annoyed by all the self righteous bullshit answers that people always give on this, and example is: i once saw someone ask about abortion, and half the answers were pertaining to peoples belief that abortion is morally wrong, isn't that **** annoying?)
